Aurora Europe Campaign

Music, Memory, and Democratic Renewal

Aurora Europe is ImpulsEurope's flagship pan-European campaign, created to inspire active European citizenship, strengthen democratic values, and promote a culture of peace. At the heart of this initiative lies the original symphony Aurora Europe, composed by Josep Maria Valls i Xufré — not as an end in itself, but as a creative catalyst for civic dialogue and youth participation across Europe.

A Movement for European Citizenship

Launched in 2022, the campaign combines music, debate, and youth-led dialogue to confront Europe's lessons from the past and reinforce its democratic future. Through concerts, community workshops, and public forums, young Europeans, educators, policymakers, and cultural institutions come together to reflect on:

  • Democratic participation and resilience against disinformation and conflict
  • Shared memory of wars and European reconstruction
  • Intercultural cooperation and solidarity across generations

The Symphony as a Catalyst for Dialogue

The symphony Aurora Europe is an immersive experience with 360° projections that awaken historical memory and emotional connection. Its four movements reflect Europe's journey from devastation to unity, offering a framework for debate and reflection after each concert:

Renaissance – From Ruins to Reflection

Dark strings and viola evoke cities devastated by war, while a solitary piano suggests the first glimmers of hope.

Consolidation – Building Common Ground

Western brass motifs and Eastern string-wind themes begin in tension but gradually merge into a single chorus, symbolizing reconciliation and the creation of the first European institutions.

Triumph – Institutions of Peace

Martial percussion and soaring trumpets celebrate the establishment of democratic structures that protect freedom and human rights.

Celebration – A Democratic Chorus

A grand multilingual finale in French, German, Italian, and Spanish proclaims Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity — inspiring reflection on today's democracy and how to defend it.

Impact So Far

  • 50+ youth workshops and political debates in nine European cities
  • More than 1,500 direct participants and an estimated audience of 20,000 people
  • Cross-border youth networks that continue collaborating long after each event

Next Steps

The campaign will continue throughout 2025–26 with performances and civic forums scheduled at the European Parliament (Brussels) and other capitals in Central and Eastern Europe. In addition, a multilingual digital platform will be launched to broadcast the symphony, share educational resources, and collect audience testimonies, integrating the project into schools, universities, and local communities.

“Music is the thread that stitches together a fractured Europe, but it is the people —young citizens— who carry that thread forward.”

The Aurora Europe Campaign transforms art into action, ensuring that Europe's story of resilience drives a vibrant and democratic future.
